This is kind of interesting. Fast Company is holding a ‘popularity contest’ with the winner being crowned the most influential person online.
What it really is, is a clever way for Fast Company to extend it’s reach. They’ve got thousands of people trying to get others to click their link and increase their popularity.
Do you think I’d sign up for a dumb popularity contest?
Of course, any list like this is subjective, but the items below are common traits among those who find a high level of success online.
1. Focused and Goal Driven
Doing today’s work today, yet with a long range goal in mind, is essential. Anyone can keep busy, but unless that busy-ness is taking you forward toward your end goals, you may be pushing what you want away from you rather than drawing it toward you.
The fears that hold us back from chasing our dreams are usually much bigger in our mind than they are in reality. When we face our fears, we may or may not walk away in obvious victory, but in time, we usually realize we walked away a little smarter and a little less afraid of our mind’s own shadows. Over at a marketing forum I frequent there are certain types of posts that always bring out the dumb responses. Here’s what I mean…
Someone may start a thread talking about how a certain marketer really gives out good information, or has a big heart, or is generous with his time . . . whatever. Invariably, someone will come along and say something like, “Don’t be fooled, he’s not doing it to be nice. He’s just trying to make money.”
At times that might be appropriate, depending on the circumstances, but then they go on to say something like, “If it wasn’t for the money he wouldn’t be doing it.”
Now that is stupid. Read the rest of this article.
At the time of this writing, Fat Cow is offering their hosting at 50% off the regular rate. That’s just $3.67 a month.
Fat Cow is a “green” host, powered 100% by wind energy. They’re one of those unlimited hosts:
- unlimited disk space
- unlimited bandwidth
- limited domains
- unlimited emails accounts
- unlimited MySQL databases
You also get a free domain name and a ton of extras too numerous to mention here—mainly because I just got back from walking my dog and I’m feeling lazy. Ha!
I’ll be honest, I’ve never used Fat Cow. I know some people who do and they love them . . . well, all but one guy that didn’t really host with them. He canceled his account because he felt the set up was taking too long. Other than that glitch, people seem to like them.
PS – If you are looking for a good host I do have experience with, look no farther than Bluehost. I host several sites with Bluehost. They are excellent, and tech support is superb.
Once we have reached the age of reason we can no longer point to our parents, our family, our friends, our adversaries, our jobs, our education, our circumstances, our religion, our location—or any other external factors—and pass the onus on to them for our state of existence. Our state of existence is the accumulation of the choices we make each day.
By the trail of our choices we are where we are in life. By the trail of our choices we become who we have chosen to become, whether by conscious choice or through ignorance or apathy. We own all of our choices . . . for better or worse.

In online marketing, the more traffic you can drive to your website should mean the more sales you’re making, but that isn’t always the case. The quality of the traffic can more difference to our bottom line than the quantity of traffic.
Keywords and keyword phrases are the means by which people find our sites through the search engines, but all keywords are not created equal. If you want to increase sales, you need to optimize content for “buyer” keywords rather than general information seekers.
If you can find buyer keywords and key phrases, and you can optimize your site for those keywords and phrases, that and good …read the rest of this article
This is a “secret” that isn’t really a secret, but it’s something no one bothers telling new marketers. Perhaps that’s because it’s obvious, or perhaps because the obvious is often overlooked.
Whatever the case may be, here’s the secret—the more content you have out there, the more chances you have to sell. See, it’s not really a secret, but it’s an often overlooked truth just the same.
Another way to put it is the more “Buy” buttons or “Add to Cart” buttons you have online, the more chances you have that someone will click one and actually buy something.
Now, why am I writing this? Because a lot of marketers don’t get it.
Ask them how many links they build each day, or how much content they add to their website each week, and you’re often met with a blank stare. They have no real plan. They may go days or weeks without doing anything promote their business.
And they wonder why they’re not making money.
Marketing, in it’s most basic form, is really quite simple. First you …read the rest of this article.
One of the more curious things I’ve noticed about other small business and home business owners is a lack of consistency in their marketing efforts. They may do some kind of marketing for several hours one day, then do nothing for a week, two weeks, or more.
That isn’t going to cut if folks.
We need to make a plan and stick with it if we want to …read the rest of this article.
All happiness is self-generated. If it were external events that bring us happiness, the same event would make everyone happy. That is clearly not the case. It’s not the events that make us happy, but our belief and expectation of happiness as the outcome that makes it so.
It is as the sages have told us throughout the ages—happiness comes from within.
